Now then the Pharisees departed and took counsel so that they might entrap Jesus in what he said.
Dear Friends of the Nazarene,
We choose Matthew 22:15 as the theme verse of chapter twenty-two – Questions Answered and A Question Unanswered. Jesus continues to respond to the Jewish religious hierarchy, relating the parable of the Invitation to the Marriage. [1-6] He foretells in parable Jerusalem’s destruction and the invitation of non-Jews. [7-10] In the parable the King arrives to judge all those invited. [11-13] The Nazarene concludes with the maxim, “Many are invited, few are chosen.” [14]
The opposers ask Jesus about the payment of taxes. [15-22] Then the master is asked by non-believers about the resurrection. [23-28] He proves the resurrection from Moses. [29-33] Now he is asked which is the greatest commandment in the Law. [34-40] Jesus foils the priests and scribes with a question of his own, “How could the son of David be his ‘lord’?” [41-46]
Abba bless those invited AND chosen.
