Matthew Chapter 28

Matthew 28:7 – The Risen Christ Appears

Now, quickly be on your way and tell his disciples that Jesus has risen from the dead! Look! Jesus goes ahead of you into Galilee. 1 There you will see him. Behold, I have told you so!”
1 Galilee: This is some distance north where the Nazarene’s ministry began. They are not told where exactly.

Dear Friends of the Nazarene,

We have chosen Matthew 28:7 as the theme verse of chapter twenty-seven – He Has Risen! Two Marys visit the grave of Christ. [1] An angel has rolled the stone away. [2-4] Jesus has arisen! [5-7] The two Marys met the Risen Master. [8-10] The Jews spread the false report that Christ’s body was stolen. [11-15] The Risen Master commissions his apostles to teach and baptize. [16-19]

Abba our Father bless those who believe in the Risen Master.

Notes from the People’s New Testament by B. W. Johnson -

To woman it was first announced that the birth of the child whose name should be Jesus, “because he should save his people from their sins” [Mt 1:21] was near; women were the last of his disciples to linger at the cross or to watch at the sepulcher; they were the first to see the empty tomb, to hear the glad news, or to be sent to tell the story of their risen Lord. They are cited to Galilee to meet the Lord, not that his only appearance would be there, for that was the seventh, but because, in that country, where the largest number of his disciples lived, he proposed to reveal himself to the whole body of saints. There he was seen “by about five hundred brethren at once” [1Co 15:6].
