This Jesus did in Cana of Galilee as a beginning of the signs1 [when] he manifested his glory.2 And so his disciples believed in him.3
| 1 | A beginning of the signs: Neither Matthew, Mark, or Luke mention this miracle. But, then, it is unlikely any of them were present on this occasion. Surely the very first miracle of Jesus would have stood out in the mind of any disciple present. |
| 2 | Manifested his glory: Compare John 1:14. |
| 3 | His disciples believed in him: At some point these disciples must have become aware of what took place. |
Dear Friends of the Nazarene,
We choose John 2:11 as the theme verse of chapter two – The First Sign and a Temple Sign. John describes Jesus, his mother and some disciples at a wedding in Cana. [1, 2] The Nazarene Master turns water into wine. [3-11] Afterward Christ goes to Jerusalem to celebrate his first of four Passovers and then ‘cleanses’ the Jewish temple the first of two times. [12-17] He answers the demand for a “sign” by an analogy of his dead body with the temple. [18-22] Many believe in him though he is distrusting of the Jewish religious hierarchy. [23-25]
Abba our Father bless those who believe.

This was the first supernatural manifestation of his divine power; that he by whom all things were made controlled the powers of nature.
