1 John Chapter 5

1 John 5:10 – Knowing the Evidence

The person believing in the Son of The God has a personal testimony. 1 The person who does not believe in The God has made Him a liar, 2 because he does not believe the testimony which He has given as evidence 3 about His Son.
1 Has a personal testimony: Or, KJV: hath the witness in himself; NEB: has this testimony in his own heart. See Romans 8:16.
2 The person who does not believe in The God has made Him a liar: Or, NEB: he who disbelieves God, makes him out to be a liar. John 3:33, “He that has accepted his witness has put his seal to it that God is true.” Romans 3:4, “May the God always be truthful though every human be a liar!”
3 Because he does not believe the testimony which He has given as evidence: Or, KJV: he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son; MOF: by refusing to believe the testimony which God has borne to his Son; BER: because he has put no faith in the evidence of God has adduced regarding His Son. John 5:37, “My Father who sent me forth has testified concerning me.”

Dear Friends of the Nazarene,

We choose 1 John 5:10 as the theme verse of chapter five – Legal Testimony. John explains what loving God means. [1-4] Love of God is manifest in obedience to His commandments.

The beloved apostle writes concerning the testimony of the sonship of Jesus. [5-8] Three things testify to Christ’s being the Son of God – water, blood and spirit. There is divine testimony to the sonship of Christ. [9-12] Christians must continue to have faith in the name of the Son. [13-15] Christian prayers will be answered if they are in harmony with God’s will. However, there are some matters a Christian should not pray about. [16, 17] There are two kinds of sin and one leads to [eternal] death. Christians should not pray regarding such sins. Christians know that the habitual sinner has not been born from God. [18-21] Christ watches over those born of God. The world lies in the power of the Wicked One. The Son has given true Christians an understanding of the true God. John ends by warning about idol worship.

Abba our Father bless those who have come to know Him and His Son.
