Locate verse: Type a verse reference like 'Romans 10:9' or abbreviated 'Rm 10:9'. By just typing the verse one can jump to the corresponding verse on the active page (only works if the current page displays a chapter). If a chapter and a verse is entered without a book, the current selected book is assumed. Providing only the name of a book will bring one to the chapter index of that book. Examples (without the quotes): '1 Tim 3:16', 'Rv 1:8', 'Matthew 5', '3:16', '8', 'Phm'.

PSALMS (1-24, 26)

PSALM 7:
SAVE ME FROM MY ENEMIES

[A hymn of David he cried to Yehowah regarding the words of Cush the Benjamite.]

PS7:1 O Yehowah my God, I have sought refuge in You. Save me from all those chasing after me. Deliver me, PS7:2 lest they tear my soul to shreds like a lion, 49 and then no deliverer could ever rescue me.
49 Tear my soul to shreds like a lion: The “soul” [NEPHESH (breathe, wind, blow)] may be compare, as Paul does, to the physical or fleshly being. [For details see notes in Nazarene Commentary 2000 on 1 Corinthians 15:40-51] The Hebrew NEPHESH occurs over 150 times in the Psalms.
PS7:3 O Yehowah my God, if I have ever done any of these – if there ever was anything distorted in my own hands – PS7:4 if I ever acted deceitfully toward anyone at peace with me – or if I ever persecuted my enemy without cause – PS7:5 then let an enemy chase after my soul 50 and actually overtake it, that he may trample into the ground my life, and cause my glory to reside in dust. [Selah]
50 My soul: Here “soul” is paralleled with “life.”

PS7:6 Rise up, Yehowah, in your anger! Raise yourself up because of the arrogant outbursts of my enemies. Arouse the justice You commanded for me. PS7:7 Return from the heights when the assembly of peoples gather around You. PS7:8 Yehowah will judge the peoples. Be fair with me, O Yehowah, in harmony with my own righteousness, and according to my own integrity. PS7:9 I beg You, cause the harm of the lawless to come to an end, and established the law-abiding. For the just God is a tester of motives 51 and deepest emotions. 52
51 Tester of motives: Or, reads, hearts, minds.
52 Deepest emotions: Or, emotions, kidneys. [u-KHELA-YOHTH] Compare Hebrews 4:12.
PS7:10 My shield is held by God who is prepared to save the upright in heart. PS7:11 A God who vindicates the law-abiding, and yet also a God who becomes righteously indignant every day. PS7:12 If anyone refuses to turn around, 53 He will sharpen His sword. He will string His bow and be ready.
53 Turn around: Or, repent, convert.
PS7:13 He has prepared for such persons His deadly weapons, making His arrows a flame. PS7:14 Look, there is the person giving birth to harmfulness and conceiving mischief and bringing forth falsehood. PS7:15 He has dug out a pit only to fall into it himself. PS7:16 His harmfulness will return upon his own head, and his violence will come down on his own skull. PS7:17 I will praise Yehowah according to His own justice, and will exult in song the Name of Yehowah Most High.
