Locate verse: Type a verse reference like 'Romans 10:9' or abbreviated 'Rm 10:9'. By just typing the verse one can jump to the corresponding verse on the active page (only works if the current page displays a chapter). If a chapter and a verse is entered without a book, the current selected book is assumed. Providing only the name of a book will bring one to the chapter index of that book. Examples (without the quotes): '1 Tim 3:16', 'Rv 1:8', 'Matthew 5', '3:16', '8', 'Phm'.

PSALMS (1-24, 26)

PSALM 10:
THE WORDS OF THE LAWLESS

[A hymn of David, continued.]

Lamedh

PS10:1 Why, O Yehowah, should you stand aloof? Why hide Yourself in times of poverty? PS10:2 Arrogantly the lawless are in hot pursuit of the poor. Let them be caught in their own plots. PS10:3 For the lawless person boasts over the desires of his own soul, while the thief blasphemes Yehowah.

Nun

PS10:4 With an arrogant look the lawless person schemes: “God is not interested. God does not care.” 69 God does not fit into any of his plans.
69 God does not care: Or, RV: there is no God; MOF: God never punishes.
PS10:5 His methods always seem secure to him. Your lofty righteous regulations are beyond his vision. He gets puffed up at all his foes. PS10:6 He thinks, “I shall never fall! Generation after generation I shall never experience trouble.”

Pe

PS10:7 His mouth is full of false promises, deceptions and fraud. Under his tongue are trouble and harmfulness. 70 [Romans 3:14]
70 Under his tongue are trouble and harmfulness: A form of the language is used by Paul at Romans 3:14.
PS10:8 He lives undercover in towns. He murders from hiding places.

Ayin

His eyes are always looking for the unfortunate. PS10:9 Like a lion he lies in wait in the underbrush. He waits to seize the lowly. He traps the lowly by pulling in his net. PS10:10 He lies down in a crouch and then pounces upon the unfortunate with powerful claws. PS10:11 He tells himself, “God is not interested! He is not looking. God will never see it!”

Qohph

PS10:12 Arise, Yehowah! O God, lift up your hand! Do not forget the lowly! PS10:13 Why does the lawless person blaspheme God? He tells himself, “You will never make an accounting!” 71
71 Accounting: Or, RSV: thou will not call to account; KNX: never exact punishment.

Rehsh

PS10:14 [God], You do observe! You do take note of mischief and misery, in order to repay by Your own hand. Unto You does the unfortunate surrender himself. You have become a helper to the orphaned.

Shin

PS10:15 Shatter the arm of the lawless person, and make inquiry into the harmfulness of the lawless person. Will you not discover it? PS10:16 Yehowah is king to unknown ages of time and beyond. The non-Jews will perish out of His land.

Taw

PS10:17 O Yehowah, You have heard the longing cries of the oppressed. You will make their hearts steady. You will listen PS10:18 to vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, that frail humans no longer cause trembling in the land.
