| Locate verse: Type a verse reference like 'Romans 10:9' or abbreviated 'Rm 10:9'. By just typing the verse one can jump to the corresponding verse on the active page (only works if the current page displays a chapter). If a chapter and a verse is entered without a book, the current selected book is assumed. Providing only the name of a book will bring one to the chapter index of that book. Examples (without the quotes): '1 Tim 3:16', 'Rv 1:8', 'Matthew 5', '3:16', '8', 'Phm'. |
PSALMS (1-24, 26)
[A hymn of David]
PS12:1 Save [me], O Yehowah! For the person of covenant-loyalty75
has ceased. For the faithful have disappeared from among humankind.76
75 The person of covenant-loyalty: Or, godly, lovingkindness, devout, loyalty, fidelity.
PS12:2 They all speak deceptively among their neighbors
– with lips they talk smoothly77
– with a double heart they talk.
76 Humankind: Or, sons of men; children of Adam.
PS12:3 May Yehowah cut off all lips speaking
smoothly78
– tongues that speak arrogantly.79
77 Smoothly: flattering. 78 Speaking smoothly: Or, flattering lips, beguiling.
PS12:4 They are those who say: “We will triumph
with our tongues! Our lips belong to us! Who is our lord?”
PS12:5 “Because of violence against the poor – because of the outcries of the needy – now I will rise up,” Yehowah has said. “I will put him in a safe place against all those who speak
so arrogantly.”80
79 Speak arrogantly: Or, proud things, swelling words, glib with boasts.
PS12:6 The words of Yehowah are
pure sayings – silver refined in an earthen crucible – purified seven times.
PS12:7 You, O Yehowah, will protect them. You will safeguard them from this generation unto ageless periods of time.
PS12:8 The lawless march around on every side when humankind exalts bloodsuckers.
80 Speak so arrogantly: Or, puff at.
