PSALMS (1-24, 26)
[A hymn of David]
PS16:1 Preserve me, O God, for I have sought refuge in You.
PS16:2 I have told Yehowah, “You are my Lord!” Any goodness I possess is from You.
PS16:3 It is the glorious Saints throughout the earth in whom I find delight.
PS16:4 Those who espouse other gods will experience many sorrows. I will never pour out their drink-offerings of blood, nor will I mention their names with my own mouth.
PS16:5 Yehowah is my Share, my Cup. You continue to maintain my portion.
PS16:6 The measuring lines have fallen on me in pleasant places. Truly an inheritance to make me happy.
PS16:7 I will bless Yehowah who gives me counsel. Surely during the night my inner motives will admonish me.
PS16:8 I have placed Yehowah before me constantly.97
Because He is on my right hand I shall never be unsettled.
PS16:9 So my heart rejoices and my own glory exults. Yes, my flesh will dwell in hope.
PS16:10 For You will never abandon me to Sheol, nor will you permit Your man of covenant-loyalty to experience decay.
PS16:11 You will cause me to know the path of life – complete joyfulness in Your presence – pleasure at Your right hand for ever. [Acts 2:25-28; 13:35]
97 I have placed Yehowah before me constantly: These verses are quoted by Peter at Acts 2:25-28 – “For David says of him: I
foresaw the Lord always in my sight, for He is on my right side that I may never be shaken. And so my heart was cheerful and my tongue rejoiced. Also, my flesh will dwell in hope. Because You will not abandoned my soul to Hades, nor will you allow Your Saint
to experience decay. You made known to me the ways of Life… You will fill me with joy within Your Presence.” [NCMM] Peter applies the verse to the resurrection of Christ Jesus. Paul does the same at Acts 13:35. The 3rd Century BC
Jewish Septuagint reads: “I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for He is on my right hand, that I should not be moved. Therefore my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope; because You will not leave my
soul in Hades, nor will you allow your Saint to see corruption. You have made known to me the ways of life. You will fill me with joy with Your countenance.” [Bagster]
