PSALMS (1-24, 26)

PSALM 18:
YEHOWAH’S MESSIAH TRIUMPHS

[A hymn of David, the servant of Yehowah, who spoke to Yehowah the words of this hymn on the day Yehowah delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. And David said:]

Psalm 18:1-15 – Yehowah in a Thunderstorm

PS18:1 I love You, O Yehowah, my strength. PS18:2 Yehowah is my Rock – my fortress, my deliverer, my God, my strength – in whom I trust. [He is] my shield and the power behind my salvation – my elevated refuge. PS18:3 I will call upon Yehowah who is worthy of all praise and so I will be rescued from my enemies. PS18:4 Death’s waves surround me, and the deluges of irreverent men have caused me to tremble. PS18:5 The snares of Sheol surround me, the snares of death confront me. PS18:6 In my anguish I called upon Yehowah and cried out to my God. He heard my voice from His sanctuary, and my cry entered into His presence, right into his ears. PS18:7 It was then the ground quaked and trembled. Also the foundations of the hills shifted because He was enraged. PS18:8 Smoke came from His nostrils, and the fire of His mouth consumed and coals were kindled. PS18:9 He bent the sky and came down with darkness below His feet. PS18:10 He rode upon a cherub and flew. Yes, He flew upon the wings of the wind. PS18:11 He caused darkness to be His cover, dark thunderstorms as His pavilion all around. PS18:12 The brilliant flashes before Him caused His heavy clouds to pass over with hailstones and coals of fire. PS18:13 Yehowah thundered in the sky and the Most High gave forth His voice with hailstones and coals of fire. PS18:14 Yes, He shot His arrows and scattered [my enemies]. He sent forth lightning and confounded them. PS18:15 Then the sea floor became visible and the very foundations of the cosmos were exposed at Your rebuke, O Yehowah, from the blast of Your breath out of Your nostrils.

Psalm 18:16-24 – Why Yehowah Rescues David

PS18:16 He reached down from above and took me. He drew me out of mighty waters. PS18:17 He delivered me from my powerful enemy, and from those who hated me who were too strong for me. PS18:18 They confronted me on the day of my calamity but Yehowah was my support. PS18:19 He brought me out into a free place. He rescued me because He was pleased with me. PS18:20 Yehowah rewarded me according to my righteousness, according to my clean hands He repaid me. PS18:21 For I have observed Yehowah’s ways and have not broken away from my God. PS18:22 For all of His judgments were in front of me, and I never disregarded His laws. PS18:23 I was always upright before Him, and I stayed away from lawlessness. PS18:24 For this reason Yehowah has repaid me according to my righteousness, in harmony with the cleanness of my hands before His eyes.

PS18:25 With the loyal You are loyal. With the blameless You are blameless. PS18:26 With the pure, You are pure. With the deceitful You are cunning. PS18:27 For You will save the humble and afflicted, but the arrogant look You will humiliate. PS18:28 You are the One who lights my lamb – Yehowah my God illuminates my darkness. PS18:29 Because of You I can run right through a troop of soldiers, and by my God I can scale a rocky cliff. PS18:30 God’s way is perfect, and Yehowah’s word is tried and true. He is a shield to everyone who trusts Him. PS18:31 Who is divine if not Yehowah? Who is a god if not the God of us? PS18:32 My strength comes from God and He makes my path complete. PS18:33 He makes my feet like those of a deer and He places me on a lofty perch. PS18:34 He teaches my hands to war so I could break a metal bow. PS18:35 You have also give me the shield of Your salvation, and Your right hand holds me up. Your condescension makes me great. PS18:36 You have lengthened my stride so that my feet never slip. PS18:37 I have chased after my enemies and overtaken them. I never stopped until I destroyed them all. PS18:38 I struck them down so they could never get up. They feel under my feet. PS18:39 For You have strengthened me for battle. You have subdued under me all those who rose up against me. PS18:40 You have given me the neck of my enemies that I may destroy those hating me. PS18:41 They called out but there was no one to save them, even to Yehowah but He did not answer them. PS18:42 Then I pounded them to dust before the wind. I threw them out like dirt from the street. PS18:43 You have delivered me from these contentious people. You placed me as chieftain over non-Hebrews. A people I never knew obey me. PS18:44 Instantly upon hearing me they obey. Strangers will submit themselves to me. PS18:45 Aliens vanish and come out frightened from their strongholds. PS18:46 Yehowah lives! Blessed by my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted. PS18:47 It is God who avenges me and subdues people under me. PS18:48 He rescued me from my enemies. Yes, he raises me above those who oppose me. You have delivered me from violent men. PS18:49 For this reason I will give thanks to You, O Yehowah, in the midst of the non-Hebrews, and I will sing praises to You Name. PS18:50 Great triumphs He gives to his king, showing covenant-loyalty to His messiah – to David and his seed into unknown times.
