Locate verse: Type a verse reference like 'Romans 10:9' or abbreviated 'Rm 10:9'.
By just typing the verse one can jump to the corresponding verse on the active page (only works if the current page displays a chapter).
If a chapter and a verse is entered without a book, the current selected book is assumed.
Providing only the name of a book will bring one to the chapter index of that book.
Examples (without the quotes): '1 Tim 3:16', 'Rv 1:8', 'Matthew 5', '3:16', '8', 'Phm'.

PSALMS (1-24, 26)
PSALM 19:
TWO TESTIMONIES
[A hymn of David]
Psalm 19:1-6 – Celestial Testimony
PS19:1 The starry cosmos
declares God’s glory. The Celesialum
proclaims His handiwork.
| 98 | Starry cosmos: Or, heaven, sky. Compare notes on Romans 1:20. [Psalm 8:3; 69:34; 115:15] The word “heaven[s]” occurs about
70 times in the Psalms. |
| 99 | Celesialum: Or, firmament, expanse, skies, vault, arch. [Psalm 150:1] |
PS19:2 Every day utters speech, and every night reveals knowledge.
| 100 | Every night reveals knowledge: Today around the clock and around the world telescopes of all kinds and sizes, including a variety
of listening devices, study the cosmos increasing knowledge of the universe. Space satellite telescopes also gathering in knowledge constantly. The universe has always been a source of study and observation since humankind began looking at the starry night.
Whole races and cultures have based their religions and sciences on such knowledge. [Psalm 65:8; 74:16; 136:9] |
PS19:3 No one actually hears a voice, nor a spoken language,
PS19:4 though their range extends over the earth,
and their message reaches the entire globe.
[Romans 10:18] Overhead He has made a dwelling
for the sun,
| 101 | Earth: The Latin is ORBIS TERRAE, “circle of the earth.” The Greek is OIKAIOMATA, “inhabited earth.” |
| 102 | Their message reaches the entire globe: Paul quotes this verse at Romans 10:19 and applies it to the heavenly gospel the Jews could witness
even if they did not listen to the Gospel and so were without excuse. No atheist or agnostic has a legitimate reason for denying God’s existence. For details see notes in Nazarene Commentary 2000 on scientists and God in Nazarene Principles 2000. |
| 103 | Dwelling: Or, tent. The language is poetic metaphor and should not be restrained to a principle of cosmology. |
PS19:5 which rises like a bridegroom coming forth from his bedroom, and rejoices like a powerful man running his race.
PS19:6 It sets out from one horizon and completes its circuit to the other extreme, and there is nothing hidden from its heat.
Psalm 19:7-14 – Yehowah’s Law
PS19:7 The law
of Yehowah is complete,
restoring
the soul. The testimony
of Yehowah is confirmed,
making the simple
wise.
| 104 | The law: Six synonyms are used on this subject. These are repeated with more details in Psalm 119. |
| 105 | Complete: Or, perfect, undefiled. |
| 106 | Restoring: Or, converting, refreshing, reviving, renewing. |
| 107 | Testimony: Or, decree, instruction, reminder. |
| 108 | Confirmed: Or, sure, faithful, trustworthy, reliable. |
| 109 | Simple: Or, ignorant, foolish, inexperienced. |
PS19:8 The precepts
of Yehowah are correct,
making the heart rejoice. The commandment
of Yehowah is pure,
enlightening the eyes.
| 110 | Precepts: Or, statutes, orders, teachings. |
| 111 | Correct: Or, right, just, true. |
| 112 | Commandment: Or, command. |
| 113 | Pure: Or, clear, intelligible. |
| 114 | Enlightening the eyes: Or, MOF: light to the mind; HAR: enlightening the mind. |
PS19:9 The reverence
of Yehowah is clean,
enduring throughout eternity. The judicial regulations
of Yehowah are faithful.
They are completely right.
| 117 | Judicial regulations: Or, judgments, ordinances, decisions,
rulings. |
| 118 | Faithful: Or, true, upright, genuine. |
| 119 | Completely right: Or, righteous altogether, perfectly just. |
PS19:10 [They are] more desirable
than gold; yes, more than refined gold. Also sweeter than honey, or even the honeycomb.
| 120 | Desirable: Or, coveted, prized. |
PS19:11 Even Your own servant
accepts their warning.
In their observance there is a great reward.
| 121 | Warning: Or, taught, enlightened. |
PS19:12 Who can discern errors?
From secret matters
pronounce me innocent.
| 122 | Who can discern errors: Or, understand, detect, aware. |
| 123 | Secret matters: Or, sins, faults, inadvertent, unwittingly. David speaks not of overt or outright sins, but those matters unknown or unrealized. |
| 124 | Pronounce me innocent: Or, cleanse, clear, acquit, absolve. |
PS19:13 Restrain
Your servant from over confidence.
May these never control me,
then I will be blameless
and pronounced innocent from great transgressions.
| 125 | Restrain: Or, keep back. |
| 126 | Over confidence: Or, presumptuousness, bolder sins, willful sins, wanton sin. |
| 127 |
Control me: Or, have dominion, rule over, gain control. For details see notes in Nazarene Commentary 2000 on Romans chapters 6 and 7. |
| 128 |
Blameless: Or, upright, undefiled, clear. |
PS19:14 May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart
come before You with acceptance – O Yehowah my Rock and my Redeemer.| 129 | Meditations of my heart: Or, RHM: soft utterance of my heart. |
