KING-MESSIAH TRUSTS IN YEHOWAH

[A hymn of David]

Psalm 21:1, 2 – A Joyful King

PS21:1 The king will rejoice, O Yehowah, in Your strength, and he will triumph 135 greatly in Your salvation.
135 He will triumph: For details see notes in Nazarene Commentary 2000 on Revelation 6:1, 2. [1 Corinthians 15:24-28]
PS21:2 You have given him the desires of his heart, and You have not withheld the request of his lips. [Selah]

Psalm 21:3-7 – How the King Is Blessed

PS21:3 For you come to visit him with good blessings. You will place on his head a golden crown. 136
136 Crown: For details see notes in Nazarene Commentary 2000 on Revelation 6:1. [Hebrews 2:5-10]
PS21:4 Life 137 he asked of You and You have given it to him – length of days to unknown times and beyond.
137 Life: Compare John 5:26. King-Messiah does not possess life by his own nature. As the Son he must receive it from Yehowah his Father.
PS21:5 He glories greatly in Your salvation. 138 You will place upon him glory and honor.
138 Salvation: For details see notes in Nazarene Commentary 2000 on Hebrews 5:7.
PS21:6 You will appoint him blessings throughout the future. You will cause him to be cheerful at beholding Your face. 139
139 Beholding Your face: Compare Daniel 7:13 and John 17:5, 11.
PS21:7 For the king continues to trust in Yehowah, and the covenant-loyalty of the Most High will never be shaken.

Psalm 21:8-13 – The King’s Enemies

PS21:8 Your hand will discover all his enemies. 140 Your own right hand will discover all those that hate You.
140 Enemies: Compare 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 and Hebrews 10:12, 13. [Psalm 110:1]
PS21:9 You will turn them into a burning furnace at the time of Your presence. 141 In His anger Yehowah will devour them and a fire will consume them.
141 Your presence: Compare 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10 where there is a strong echo. Compare also Daniel 7:22.
PS21:10 You will destroy the produce of their fields, as well as their offspring among humankind. PS21:11 For they have treated You harmfully. They have devised a plot 142 they cannot carry out.
142 A plot: Compare notes on Psalm 2:1.
PS21:12 You will force them to retreat. You will prepare Your bows 143 right in front of them.
143 Bows: Compare Psalm 45:5 and Revelation 6:1, 2.
PS21:13 In all of Your strength, O Yehowah, be exalted. With singing and music we will voice Your power.
