Locate verse: Type a verse reference like 'Romans 10:9' or abbreviated 'Rm 10:9'. By just typing the verse one can jump to the corresponding verse on the active page (only works if the current page displays a chapter). If a chapter and a verse is entered without a book, the current selected book is assumed. Providing only the name of a book will bring one to the chapter index of that book. Examples (without the quotes): '1 Tim 3:16', 'Rv 1:8', 'Matthew 5', '3:16', '8', 'Phm'.

THE PROPHET ISAIAH

CHAPTER TWELVE:
GOD IS MY SALVATION!

Isaiah 12:1-6 – Rejoice in Salvation

IS12:1 And so, in that day, you will surely say: “I thank You, 499 O YeHoWaH! Despite Your anger toward me, 500 Your rage has stopped. 501 Now You comfort me. 502
499 I thank You: Or, praise you, bless you. Likely Isaiah speaks as the remnant of corporate Israel. It is godly that prayers begin with thanksgiving.
500 Despite Your anger toward me: Or, JPS: although You were wroth with me; RHM: angry with me.
501 Your rage has stopped: Or, LXX: turned aside your wrath; NJB: your anger is now appeased; JPS: your wrath has turned back. [Isaiah 40:2]
502 Now You comfort me: Or, LXX: pitied me. See 2 Corinthians chapter 1 for the most occurrences of “comfort” in the Christian Scriptures. [Deuteronomy 30:3; Psalm 30:5; 85:1; Isaiah 66:13; Hosea 6:1]
IS12:2 Look! God 503 is my salvation! 504 I will trust and not be afraid! 505 For surely my strength and my power 506 is YaH 507 YeHWaH, 508 and He has become my salvation!”
503 God: The LXX Greek is HO THEOS [The God] as it appears most often in the Christian Scriptures.
504 Salvation: Or, LXX: Savior. The word “salvation” occurs about 250 times in the Bible, most often in the Psalms with 80 occurrences, and 30 in Isaiah. Jesus only uses the word twice.
505 I will trust and not be afraid: Or, NJB: I shall have faith; RHM: not dread; JPS: I am confident, unafraid. [Isaiah 26:4]
506 My strength and my power: Or, KJV: and my song; JPS: might [footnote: song]; RHM: melody; NJB: my song; LXX: my glory and my praise.
507 YaH: Or, NJB: Yahweh; RHM: Yah Yahweh; JPS: Yah the LORD; KJV: LORD JEHOVAH. A shortened form of Jehovah [Jah] seen in Hallelujah, and used most often in contexts of martial salvation.
508 YeHWaH: Or, Jehovah, Yahweh. The Masorete vowel pointing is Yehwah as it is at Genesis 2:4.
IS12:3 And so you will draw water from the fountain of salvation 509 with rejoicing.
509 Draw water from the fountain of salvation: Or, KJV: wells; JPS: fountains of triumph; NJB: joyfully you will draw water; LXX: water with joy out of the wells of salvation. [Jeremiah 2:13; Revelation 7:17; 22:17] Compare John 4:1-24.
IS12:4 In that day you will say: “Thank YeHoWaH. 510 Call upon His Name. 511 Declare among the peoples His deeds. 512 Remind them His Name is to be exalted. 513
510 Thank YeHoWaH: Or, praise, sing.
511 Call upon His name: Or, LXX: call aloud upon his name. The importance of God’s Name [Jehovah, Yahweh, Yehowah] cannot be stressed to much. Just a search of the word “name” will reveal considerable information on the subject. [1 Chronicles 16:8; Psalm 105:1; Romans 10:13] See notes on Malachi 3:16.
512 Declare among the peoples His deeds: Or, LXX: make mention; NJB: proclaim his deeds to the people; RHM: make known; JPS: make his deeds known. Faith, by its nature, causes one to speak. [2 Corinthians 4:13]
513 Remind them His name is to be exalted: Or, RHM: bring to remembrance; NJB: declare his name sublime. Jeremiah predicts that God’s servants would cause His people to “forget His name” replaced by “Lord.” [Jeremiah 23:27] This has been fulfilled first with the Jews and later the apostate Christians.
IS12:5 Thank YeHoWaH in song. 514 For He has accomplished a marvelous thing, 515 and this is well known throughout the land.”
514 Thank YeHoWaH in song: Or, JPS: hymn the LORD; RHM: praise in son Yahweh. The theme of hymns is to be Jehovah. Songs and music figured greatly in the worship of the Hebrews and Jews. It is virtually lacking in the Gospels.
515 He has accomplished a marvelous thing: Or, LXX: great things; NJB: his works are majestic; RHM: splendid thing; JPS: done gloriously.
IS12:6 O, shout with joy 516 and sing it out, you citizens of Zion, 517 that the Holy One of Israel is great in your midst.
516 Shout with joy: Or, NJB: cry and shout; RHM: make shrill thy voice and sing out.
517 Citizens of Zion: Or, inhabitress.
