THE PROPHET ZECHARIAH

CHAPTER FOURTEEN:
THE DAY OF JEHOVAH – WAR AND BLESSINGS

Summary

A future war against Jerusalem leading to captivity. YHWH will come with His Saints to war against the nations. It will be a unique Day to YHWH. Jerusalem will be inhabited and there will be no more curse on the Holy City. YHWH will plague the warring nations, but finally there will be survivors who will worship Him.

Zechariah 14:1, 2 – War against Jerusalem

ZC14:1 [YeHoWaH continues speaking through the prophet Zechariah:] “Behold, the Day of YeHoWaH approaches. 369 [2 Thessalonians 2:2] Then right before your eyes the spoils of war will be distributed [among your enemies]. 370
369 The Day of YeHoWaH approaches: Or, ASV: a day of Jehovah cometh; NJB: the Day of Yahweh is coming; JPS: the days of the Lord come; LXX: a day of the Lord is coming [ERCHONTAI]. The phrase is repeated at 2 Thessalonians 2:2. The Hebrew work Society for distributing the Hebrew Scriptures places YHWH in Paul’s verse. The designation “day of Jehovah” takes several forms. Compare one of the earliest occurrences at Deuteronomy 4:15. It occurs often in the prophets. [Isaiah 2:12; 13:6, 9; Ezekiel 7:19; 13:5; Joel 1:15; 2:1, 11, 31; Amos 5:18, 20; Obadiah 15; Zephaniah 1:7, 8, 14, 18; 2:2, 3; Malachi 4:5] See notes on 2 Peter 3:10 where the Society for distributing the Hebrew Scriptures inserts YHWH in Peter’s text. Here in Zechariah “the day of Jehovah” is the same as the Great Oppression against the end-time Saints as earthly citizens of the Holy City New Jerusalem. [Revelation 11:1-3; 12:17; 13:5, 7] It must be remembered that some minor-types are fulfilled upon earthly Jerusalem and Judah between 66-73 AD.
370 Then right before your eyes the spoils of war will be distributed among your enemies: Or, JPS: and thy spoils shall be divided in thee; LXX: when they will make division of your goods taken by force before your eyes. The language is directed to Jerusalem. Return to Zechariah 12:2, 3.
ZC14:2 Indeed, I will collect together all the national groups to war against Jerusalem. 371 [Revelation 11:2] The [Holy] City will be captured, the houses plundered and the women raped. 372 Half of the [Holy] City will go forth into captivity 373 [Revelation 13:10]. Those left over among the People will not be cut off from the [Holy] City. 374
371 I will collect together all the national groups to war against Jerusalem: Or, ASV: I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; JPS: I will gather all the Gentiles to Jerusalem to war; LXX: I will get all the nations [ETHNE] together to make war [POLEMON] against Jerusalem. The minor fulfillment occurred during the great oppression on Jerusalem and Judah between 66-73 AD. [Daniel 8:11-14] See notes on Matthew 24:1-3, 15-22 and Luke 19:43, 44 and Luke 21:5-7, 20-24. Compare the words ETHNESIN [national groups] and POLEMON [war] at Revelation 11:2 [compare with Luke 21:24] and Revelation 11:7. Note POLEMON [war] at Revelation 12:17 and again at Revelation 13:7.
372 The [Holy] City will be captured, the houses plundered and the women raped: Or, JPS: and the city shall be taken, and the houses plundered, and the women ravished; LXX: and the town [POLIS] will be overcome, and the goods taken from the houses, and the women [GYNAIES] taken by force [DI-HARPAGESONTAI]. The Great Oppression will be a time of great test on the end-time Saints. On the minor fulfillment against earthly Jerusalem in 70 AD see the Mosaic Curse at Deuteronomy 28:30. [Lamentations 5:11] Regarding the Holy City New Jerusalem and her earthly citizens see POLIN at Revelation 11:2 and the word AIKHMALOSIAN [captivity] at Revelation 13:10. Compare the Greek for “rape” here and the “rapture” at 1 Thessalonians 4:16, 17 [HARPAGESOMETHA].
373 Half of the [Holy] City will go forth into captivity: Or, JPS: and half of the city shall go forth into captivity; LXX: and half the town will go away as prisoners. See notes above on “captivity” and Revelation 13:10. Half is a sizeable portion of the end-time Saints who suffer captivity or imprisonment. Earthly Jerusalem and Judah between 66-73 AD suffered great trials with one million dead and 90,000 taken as captives. See notes on Matthew 24:20-22.
374 Those left over among the People will not be cut off from the [Holy] City: Or, ASV: and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city; JPS: but the rest of my people shall not be utterly cut off from the city; LXX: and the rest of the people will not be cut off from the town. [Isaiah 65:8; Matthew 24:22] Evidently not all the end-time Saints will go off into imprisonment but will suffer persecution in other ways. No matter what the faithful will never be cut off from the New Jerusalem.

Zechariah 14:3-5 – YHWH Comes with His Saints to War

ZC14:3 “At that time YeHoWaH will go forth and fight against those national groups, [Revelation 19:11-15] just as He did [of old] when He fought in the day of battle. 375
375 At that time YeHoWaH will go forth and fight against those national groups, just as He did [of old] when He fought in the day of battle: Or, ASV: Then shall Jehovah go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle; LXX: Then the Lord will go out and make war against those nations, as he did in the day of the fight. This happens when Jehovah’s “Associate” goes with his Saints to fight Armageddon. [Compare notes on Revelation 16:14, 16; 19:11-15.]
ZC14:4 For a certainty in that Day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives [Matthew 24:3] east of Jerusalem. 376 Then the Mount of Olives will be divided in two down the middle – toward east and west. 377 And half of the Mount of Olives will recede to the north forming a great valley while the other half recedes to the Negeb in the south. 378
376 For a certainty in that Day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives east of Jerusalem: Or, LXX: And in that day his feet will be on the Mount of Olives, which is opposite Jerusalem on the east. There are several views as to the prophetic meaning here. Revelation chapters 19 and 21 describe the Holy City New Jerusalem descending from the Celestialum to earth. In that blessed City are the Father God Almighty, the Lamb and his Church. Without being dogmatic, some would view the words in Zechariah 14:4 to have a literal degree about them.
377 Then the Mount of Olives will be divided in two down the middle – toward east and west: Or, LXX: and the Mount of Olives will be parted in the middle to the east and to the west, forming a very great valley. This Mount of Olives is the place Christ ascended to heaven, so it is a most worthy place to see the Return of Jehovah’s “associate.” [Acts 1:12] The area is being prepared for something big.
378 And half of the Mount of Olives will recede to the north forming a great valley while the other half recedes to the Negeb in the south: Or, LXX: half the mountain will be moved to the north and half of it to the south. This “great valley” is being prepared for the arrival of Jehovah as represented in His “associate” – the Shepherd. Compare notes on Daniel 7:22 and Acts 1:9-11. Evidently Jesus purposely choose the Mount of Olives for his ascension knowing his Return would be to the same spot. Some render the Hebrew NEGEB or AZAL. The Negeb is a huge barren area with a hostile desert. It stretches east and south of Israel for hundreds of miles. See notes on verse 10 regarding the area needed to accommodate the New Jerusalem.
ZC14:5 Then all of you people will flee into the Valley of My Mountains. 379 For a certainty all of you people will flee just as you [Israelites] fled the earthquake 380 [Revelation 11:13] during the days of Uzziah king of Judah. 381 Then YeHoWaH my God will arrive with all of His Saints. 382 [1 Thessalonians 3:13; 2 Thessalonians 1:10]
379 Then all of you people will flee into the Valley of My Mountains: Or, LXX: And the valley will be stopped…and you will go in flight. It is interesting that in the minor-type Jesus urges, “flee to the mountains.” [Matthew 24:16] This was fulfilled in a minor way when Christians did flee to the mountains of Perea.
380 For a certainty all of you people will flee just as you [Israelites] fled the earthquake: Or, LXX: go in flight as you went in flight from the earth-shock [SYSSEISMOU].
381 During the days of Uzziah king of Judah: Compare Amos 1:1. The earthquake must have been of great strength as it is used as a chronological pointer. Earthquakes are mentioned several times in Revelation in different contexts. There is one earthquake in the prophetic context of Christ’s Return and it is associated with the celestial phenomenon accompanying his parousia. [Revelation 6:12; 11:13; 16:18] An earthquake also occurred – along with celestial phenomenon – at the death of Jesus Christ. [Matthew 27:45, 48]
382 Then YeHoWaH my God will arrive with all of His Saints: Or, ASV: Jehovah my God shall come, and all the holy ones with thee; JPS: God shall come, and all the saints [QADOWSH] with him; LXX: and the Lord my God will come, and all his holy ones [HAGIOI] with him. The LXX Greek is KAI [and] PANTES [all] OI [His] AGIOI [saints] MET [with] AUTOU [his]. 1 Thessalonians 3:13 alludes to it in these words: META PANTON TON HAGION AUTOU. The full phrase is in the context of the Parousia [Presence/Arrival/Return]: “Thus he may firmly establish your hearts without any blame in holiness in the presence of our God and Father [and] in the presence PAROUSIA] of our Master Jesus with all his Saints.” [21st Century Version of the Christian Scriptures©] Both God the Father and the Master Jesus are included. 2 Thessalonians 1:10 seems another paraphrase: “They will suffer the punishment of everlasting destruction and being cast out from YHWH’s presence [Psalm 68:34] and from the glory of his might, [Isaiah 2:10] when he arrives on the Day [Isaiah 2:10] to be glorified along with his Saints, [Psalm 89:7] and to be looked at in wonder among all those who believed because of our testimony to you believers.” [21st Century Version of the Christian Scriptures] On the “coming” of YHWH see Psalm 96:13; 98:9; Jude 14. Regarding the coming of both the Father and the Son compare notes on Revelation 1:7, 8 and Revelation 6:16, 17.

Zechariah 14:6-9 – A Day Unique to YHWH

ZC14:6 “It will surely happen on that Day that there will be no light, the brilliant stars will withdraw 383 [Revelation 22:5]
383 It will surely happen on that Day that there will be no light, the brilliant stars will withdraw: Or, ASV: And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall not be light; the bright ones shall withdraw themselves; BAS: And it shall come to pass in that day, that there shall not be light, but heavy clouds and thick; JPS: And it shall come to pass in that day that there shall be no light; LXX: And in that day there will be no heat or cold or ice; BAG: no light; TAN: there shall be neither sunlight nor cold moonlight [footnote: (Hebrew) uncertain]. There are different approaches to the verse. What grabs our attention is the allusion in Revelation 22:5 with its KAI NYX OUK ESTAI ETI [and night will not be]. The LXX Greek is OUK ESTAI PHOS [there will be no light].
ZC14:7 It will be a Day unique and recognized as belonging to YeHoWaH – without daylight or night time. 384 [Revelation 21:25] It will surely occur that there will be light in the evening. 385
384 It will be a Day unique and recognized as belonging to YeHoWaH – without daylight or night time: Or, ASV: but it shall be one day which is known unto Jehovah; not day, and not night; LXX: And it will be unbroken day, such as the Lord has knowledge of, without change of day and night [KAI OYK HEMERA OUKOU NYX]. On the celestial phenomenon at the parousia of Christ see notes on Isaiah 13:10, Amos 5:18, Matthew 24:29. The phrase “without daylight or night time” is paraphrased at Revelation 21:25, “The gates of the City will remain open day and night. Night will not exist in the City.” [21st Century Version of the Christian Scriptures] [OU… HEMERAS NYX GAR OUK ME EKEI]
385 It will surely occur that there will be light in the evening: Or, JPS: but towards evening it shall be light; LXX: and even at nightfall it will be light. [Isaiah 30:26]
ZC14:8 On that Day it will certainly happen that living waters will flow out of Jerusalem 386 – half to the sea in front and half to the sea behind. It will occur in summer and winter. 387
386 On that Day it will certainly happen that living waters will flow out of Jerusalem: Or, ASV: And it shall come to pass in that day, that living waters shall go out from Jerusalem; LXX: And on that day living waters will go out from Jerusalem. Return to Zechariah 13:1. The LXX Greek is EXELEUSETAI HYDOR ZON EX IEROUSALEM. Compare the allusion at Revelation 22:1 – HYDATOS [of water] ZOES [of life]… EXPOREUOMENON [going forth] EK [out of]… God’s throne and the Lamb.” As John alludes to Zechariah, Zechariah may allude to Ezekiel 47:1. Compare “living water” Isaiah 12:3; Jeremiah 2:13; 17:13. Note the HYDOR ZON at John 4:10 and HYDATOS ZONTOS at John 7:37, 38. The beloved apostle John compares these “living waters” to “the Pneuma.’ [John 7:39]
387 Half to the sea in front and half to the sea behind. It will occur in summer and winter: Or, ASV: half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea: in summer and in winter shall it be. [Deuteronomy 3:17; Ezekiel 47:8]
ZC14:9 Thus, YeHoWaH will become King over all the earth. 388 [Revelation 11:15] In that Day YeHoWaH will be unique and His Name unique. 389
388 YeHoWaH will become King over all the earth: Or, ASV: Jehovah shall be King over all the earth; NJB: Yahweh will become king of the whole world. [Psalm 97:1] The phrase is echoed at Revelation 11:15 and Revelation 19:6. It is clear from Revelation 11:15 and Revelation 12:10 that both God Almighty and the Lamb rule the world. The Saints will rule with them. [1 Corinthians 6:2; Revelation 20:4; 22:5] Compare notes on Daniel 7:27.
389 In that Day YeHoWaH will be unique and His Name unique: That is, singular. Or, ASV: in that day shall Jehovah be one, and his name one; NJB: Yahweh will be one and only and his name the one name; DAR: in that day shall there be one Jehovah, and his name one; YLT: In that day there is one Jehovah, and His name one. It is clear that it is YHWH that becomes singular and unique and not the Messiah. Of course, the name “Jesus” [Ye-shu’a] means “Yah-Saves.” [Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 42:8; Galatians 3:20] Compare notes on 1 Corinthians 15:28. The Name YHWH will be pronounced in its perfect correctness. The whole meaning of YHWH will be understood by all. Note Exodus 3:15, “Yahweh… This is my name for all time.” [NJB]

Zechariah 14:10, 11 – Jerusalem Inhabited

ZC14:10 “All the land will become a desert wilderness, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. 390 Then [the Holy City] will be firmly placed on high where she belongs. 391 People will inhabit her – from Benjamin’s Gate all the way up to the former gate, up to Hananeel’s Tower, all the way to the King’s Winepress. 392
390 All the land will become a desert wilderness, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem: Or, ASV: All the land shall be made like the Arabah, from Geba to Rimmon south of Jerusalem. The Arabah is a huge desert wilderness east and south of Israel. [Deuteronomy 1:7] Geba is a city on the northern boundary of Judah. All things considered, including the barrenness of these areas, the size of all this land is big enough to accommodate the golden city of New Jerusalem.
391 Then [the Holy City] will be firmly placed on high where she belongs: Or, ASV: and she shall be lifted up, and shall dwell in her place; NJB: stand high in her place; LXX: and she will be lifted up and be living in her place. [Revelation 21:2, 10]
392 People will inhabit her – from Benjamin’s Gate all the way up to the former gate, up to Hananeel’s Tower, all the way to the King’s Winepress: Or, ASV: from Benjamin’s gate unto the place of the first gate, unto the corner gate, and from the tower of Hananel unto the king’s wine-presses.
ZC14:11 Thus people will reside there, and there will no longer be a curse. 393 Jerusalem will dwell in security. 394
393 There will no longer be a curse: Or, BAS: no more extermination; NJB: the curse of destruction will be lifted; LXX: there will be no more curse. The Hebrew is CHEREM [Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance #2764, a thing devoted, thing dedicated, ban, devotion… (appointed to) utter destruction] and means Jerusalem will never again be looted by opposing armies and then desolated. [Isaiah 60:18; Jeremiah 31:40] The LXX Greek is KAI ANATHEMA OUK ESTAI ETI [and no more anathema will exist]. It compares to Revelation 22:3, KAI PAN KATATHEMA OUK ESTAI ETI.
394 Jerusalem will dwell in security: That is, “the New Jerusalem will dwell in security.” [Isaiah 65:17-25]

Zechariah 14:12-15 – Plague on Those against Jerusalem

ZC14:12 “Now this is the kind of plague [Revelation 15:1] YeHoWaH will plague all the peoples who came to war against Jerusalem. 395 [Revelation 11:2, 7] While they are standing on their feet their flesh will rot, eyes rotting in their sockets, tongues [Revelation 16:10] rotting in their mouths. 396
395 Now this is the kind of plague YeHoWaH will plague all the peoples who came to war against Jerusalem: Or, ASV: And this shall be the plague wherewith Jehovah will smite all the peoples that have warred against Jerusalem; JPS: And this shall be the overthrow with which the Lord will smite all the nations, as many as have fought against Jerusalem; LXX: And this will be the disease which the Lord will send on all the peoples which have been warring against Jerusalem. The Hebrew for “plague” here is MAGGEPHAH [Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance #4026, blow, slaughter, plague, pestilence, strike, smite] and has a range of meaning. Since the phrase “to war against Jerusalem” is alluded to in Revelation 11:2, 7 the “plague” here may be related to those which begin with Revelation 15:1. There are modern diseases that react similar to the one now described.
396 While they are standing on their feet their flesh will rot, eyes rotting in their sockets, tongues rotting in their mouths: Or, ASV: their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth; LXX: their flesh will be wasted away while they are on their feet, their eyes will be wasted in their heads and their tongues in their mouths. Compare something similar at Acts 12:23. See notes on Revelation 9:5; 16:2. We are not told how long this process takes, whether instant before everlasting extinction, or other a period of time.
ZC14:13 It will certainly happen in that Day there YeHoWaH will send tremendous confusion among them. 397 Each person will grab the hand of a neighbor, raising a hand to strike a neighbor. 398
397 YeHoWaH will send tremendous confusion among them: Or, ASV: a great tumult; NJB: a great terror; JPS: a great panic; LXX: a great fear. [Matthew 24:30; Luke 21:26] Compare Ezekiel 38:21.
398 Each person will grab the hand of a neighbor, raising a hand to strike a neighbor: Or, ASV: they shall lay hold every one on the hand of his neighbor, and his hand shall rise up against the hand of his neighbor. That is, complete anarchy.
ZC14:14 At that time even Judah will fight against Jerusalem! 399 [The wealth of all the surrounding national groups [Revelation 21:24, 26] will be collected together – gold, silver and [costly] garments in abundance.] 400
399 At that time even Judah will fight against Jerusalem: Or, ASV: Judah also shall fight at Jerusalem; BAS: Judah also shall fight against Jerusalem; LXX: even Judah will be fighting against Jerusalem. Some read “in” and others “against.” If the later view is held then the paraphrase might be, “even the Jews will fight against [New] Jerusalem.”
400 [The wealth of all the surrounding national groups will be collected together – gold, silver and [costly] garments in abundance.]: Or, ASV: and the wealth of all the nations round about shall be gathered together, gold, and silver, and apparel, in great abundance; LXX: and the wealth of all the nations round about will be massed together, a great store of gold and silver and clothing. The language is paraphrased at Revelation 21:24, 26. Return to Zechariah 2:9. [Isaiah 61:6; 66:11]
ZC14:15 This same kind of plague – exactly the same plague! - will come upon all the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and domestic animals in those encamped [peoples]. 401
401 This same kind of plague – exactly the same plague! - will come upon all the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and domestic animals in those encamped [peoples]: Or, ASV: And so shall be the plague of the horse, of the mule, of the camel, and of the ass, and of all the beasts that shall be in those camps, as that plague; JPS: And this shall be the overthrow of the horses, and mules, and camels, and asses, and all the beasts that are in those camps, according to this overthrow; LXX: And the horses and the transport beasts, the camels and the asses and all the beasts in those tents will be attacked by the same disease.

Zechariah 14:16-21 – Surviving Nations Must Worship YHWH

ZC14:16 “Now it will certainly happen that all the survivors among all the national groups that warred against Jerusalem will ascend annually to prostrate before the King YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies 402celebrating the Feast of Booths. 403
402 Now it will certainly happen that all the survivors among all the national groups that warred against Jerusalem will ascend annually to prostrate before the King YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies: Or, ASV: And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations that came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Jehovah of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles; LXX: And it will come about that everyone who is still living, of all those nations who came against Jerusalem, will go up from year to year to give worship to the King, the Lord of armies, and to keep the feast of tents; NJB: after this, all the survivors of all the nations. Whatever one makes of this former Jewish festival, the verse proves there will be non-Jewish nations that will survive to worship Jehovah. These are “survivors” of the destruction of Babylon the Great and Armageddon. These include even some who actually warred against [New] Jerusalem. [Isaiah 66:19] Note the KJV at Revelation 21:24. These will include two-thirds of earth’s population that will witness “the hour of judgment” and turn to fearing and glorifying God Almighty. [Revelation 9:15; 14:7] They will be those nations that the Devil will no longer mislead. [Revelation 20:3]
403 Celebrating the Feast of Booths: A Jewish holy festival which involved living in “tents” made of palm branches. Not the same figure of speech at Revelation 7:9. [John 7:2] The suggestion is that during the Thousand Year reign of Messiah peoples of all national groups will journey to visit the New Jerusalem in the renewed “holy land.” The holy and righteous among these may be permitted to walk the “Broadway” of the Holy City, something like walking its main street lit with everlasting light. Compare Isaiah 66:23, 24. Judging from the next verse some though surviving Armageddon will refuse to engage in such worship. Given time such will be cursed.
ZC14:17 It will also happen that any from among all the families of the earth who refuse to ascend to Jerusalem to prostrate before the King YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies – it will no longer rain upon them. 404 [Hebrews 6:7, 8]
404 It will also happen that any from among all the families of the earth who refuse to ascend to Jerusalem to prostrate before the King YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies – it will no longer rain upon them: Or, JPS: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever of all the families of the earth shall not come up to Jerusalem to worship the king, the Lord Almighty, even these shall be added to the others; LXX: And it will be that if any one of all the families of the earth does not go up to Jerusalem to give worship to the King, the Lord of armies, on them there will be no rain. The figure of speech points to an everlasting curse with its resultant punishment. [Isaiah 45:23; 60:12]. See notes on Romans 14:11 and Philippians 2:10, 11. Isaiah 65:20 describes the sinner during the Thousand Years having evil called down upon him. Hebrews 6:7, 8 echoes a similar thought.
ZC14:18 If Egyptian families refuse to ascend [to Jerusalem] – refusing to enter [the Holy City] [Revelation 21:27; 22:14, 14] – [no rain] will fall on them. 405 A plague from YeHoWaH will strike them just as the previous plague that YHWH plagued the national groups, all because they refused not to ascend and celebrate the Festival of Booths. 406
405 If Egyptian families refuse to ascend [to Jerusalem] – refusing to enter [the Holy City] – [no rain] will fall on them: Or, BAS: And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, they shall have no overflow; there shall be the plague, wherewith the LORD will smite the nations that go not up to keep the feast of tabernacles; JPS: And if the family of Egypt shall not go up, nor come; then upon them shall be the overthrow with which the Lord shall smite all the nations, whichever of them shall not come up to keep the feast of tabernacles. LXX: they will be attacked by the disease which the Lord will send on the nations. This punishment describes for us the exact manner of Second Death’s authority. [Revelation 20:6]
406 A plague from YeHoWaH will strike them just as the previous plague that YHWH plagued the national groups, all because they refused not to ascend and celebrate the Festival of Booths: Or, ASV: And if the family of Egypt go not up, and come not, neither shall it be upon them; there shall be the plague wherewith Jehovah will smite the nations that go not up to keep the feast of tabernacles; LXX: And if the family of Egypt does not go up or come there, they will be attacked by the disease which the Lord will send on the nations. [See notes above.]
ZC14:19 That will be the punishment on Egypt, as well as the punishment on all the national groups who refuse to ascend and celebrate the Festival Booths. ZC14:20 At that time it will happen that it will be inscribed upon the bells of the horses, Holy to YeHoWaH. 407 Also every large cooking pot in Jerusalem and Judah will become something holy 408 to YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies.
407 At that time it will happen that it will be inscribed upon the bells of the horses, Holy to YeHoWaH: Or, ASV: In that day shall there be upon the bells of the horses, HOLY UNTO JEHOVAH; LXX: On that day all the bells of the horses will be holy to the Lord. [Exodus 28:36; 39:30; Malachi 1:11]
408 Also every large cooking pot in Jerusalem and Judah will become something holy: Or, ASV: Yea, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah shall be holy unto Jehovah of hosts. [Exodus 25:29; 37:16; Numbers 4:7] The verse emphasizes the holiness of all the peoples. Compare 2 Timothy 2:20, 21 and Revelation 21:27; 22:15.
ZC14:21 Everyone wishing to approach and offer up sacrifices will use them for cooking. 409 Never again in that Day will there be a merchant in the House of YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies.” 410
409 Everyone wishing to approach and offer up sacrifices will use them for cooking: Or, ASV: and all they that sacrifice shall come and take of them, and boil therein; LXX: and all those who make offerings will come and take them for boiling their offerings. Note Ezekiel 46:23.
410 Never again in that Day will there be a merchant in the House of YeHoWaH of [celestial] armies: Or, ASV: and in that day there shall be no more a Canaanite in the house of Jehovah of hosts; BAS: and in that day there shall be no more a trafficker in the house of the LORD of hosts; LXX: in that day there will be no more traders [CHANANITE] in the house of the Lord of armies. One cannot read this without thinking of John 2:16 [EMPORIOU]. Note the traveling merchants in Revelation 18:11-19. No longer will materialism and greed be tolerated in God’s Temple. This is a most intriguing way to end such a powerful book of prophecy. It emphasizes God’s attitude toward materialism.
