MK16:1 Now when the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, brought aromatic spices in order to anoint Jesus. MK16:2 So very early in the morning of the first day of the week, they arrived at the tomb at sunrise. MK16:3 They kept saying to one another: “Who will roll the stone away from the tomb opening?” MK16:4 But when they looked they saw that the stone had been rolled back – for it was very large. MK16:5 Then entering the tomb they saw a young man sitting to the right dressed in a white robe and this frightened them. MK16:6 Then he said to them: “Do not be frightened. You seek Jesus the Nazarene who was impaled? He is risen and is no longer here. MK16:7 But go your way and tell Peter and the disciples that Jesus has gone ahead of them into Galilee. They will see him there just as he told you.” MK16:8 So they left quickly and fled from the tomb because they trembled in astonishment. They said nothing to anyone for they were very afraid.
[Some manuscripts have a very short conclusion after Mark 16:8:]
They briefly related everything they had been commanded to Peter and others. After this Jesus sent the apostles forth from east to west with the holy and incorruptible message of everlasting salvation.
Some ancient manuscripts add this long conclusion –
MK16:9 After Jesus rose early on the first day of the week he became visible first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had exorcised seven demons. MK16:10 She went and reported to his apostles who were mourning and weeping. MK16:11 However, when they heard Jesus had come to life and had been seen by her they did not believe. MK16:12 Later Jesus appeared in another form to two of them walking along, as they were going into the country, MK16:13 then these returned and reported to the others. These would not believe either. MK16:14 But later Jesus became visible to the eleven apostles as they were reclining at the table. Jesus rebuked them for their disbelief and stubbornness, because they did not believe those who had already seen him raised up from the dead. MK16:15 Jesus said to them: “Go into all the world of humanity and declare the Good News to all creation. MK16:16 The person who believes and is immersed will be saved, but the one not believing will be condemned. MK16:17 Also, these signs will attend those who believe: by the use of my name demons will be exorcised and they will speak with other languages. MK16:18 Also, with their own hands they will handle serpents, and if they should drink any poison it will not harm them. They will lay their hands on the sick and these will be cured.” MK16:19 So after the Lord Jesus had spoken to the apostles, he was received up into the sky and then sat down at the right hand of the God. MK16:20 As a result of this, the apostles left and preached, while the Lord worked together with them and supported their message by means of signs.
